Audi TTS Limited Edition marks 500,000 TT sales

In some ways the Audi TT seems to have been around for ever, although it was actually launched in 1998 and garnered fame as a bit of a softy aimed at hairdressers and others who valued cosmetics over ability. But the latest Audi TT is a much better car and does offer real performance and real driving fun, especially if you opt for the TT RS.

In the fifteen years since the TT launched, Audi has managed to flog 500,000, and to celebrate we’re treated to a new TT limited edition – the Audi TTS Limited Edition – which comes with cosmetic tweaks and as a coupe or roadster.

This is the same limited edition TT we reported on in August, which is the TTS Competition in Europe, which we now know is heading to the UK too.

The cosmetic tweaks aim to give the TTS Limited Edition some of the style and presence of the range-topping TT RS, with a fixed rear spoiler and five-spoke alloys plus a choice of Nimbus Grey or Imola Yellow paint, leather with yellow stitching and a choice of grey or black hood on the convertible.

Extra equipment includes DBD SatNav, Bluetooth, and Audi Music Interface thanks to the standard Technology Package, BOSE, Cruise, Rear Parking Sensors and interior light package.

Under the skin it’s the same 2.0 litre turbo 4-cylinder as the TTS, which means 268bhp and a 0-62mph of 5.3 seconds.

You can have the TTS Limited Edition as either a Coupe (from £38,860) or as a Roadster (£43,320), a premium of £2815 over a standard TTS although Audi say buyers will be saving over $£5.5k compared to speccing a TTS to the same level.

The Audi TTS Limited Edition is a run of just 500 cars – with 120 coming to the UK – and will be one of the last, if not the last, TT special editions ahead of an all new TT in 2014.
