BMW 114d arrives & new engines for the BMW 3 Series

Mon, 03 Sep 2012

BMW has revealed the 114d Sports hatch and new engines for the 3 Series and 3 Series Touring. New BMW Nav Pro also added to 3 Series.

BMW has been having a play with the 1 Series and 3 Series with new engine options available from November.

The BMW 114d arrives with a 1.6 litre version of the TwinTurbo four-pot offering 94bhp, average fuel consumption of 65.7mpg and a 0-62mph of 12.2 seconds. Not enough to frighten the horses, but enough to make BMW 1 Series motoring a bit more frugal.

That frugality is thanks to a raft of EfficientDynamics stuff like Brake Energy Regeneration, Shift Indicator, Stop-Start, Active Aerodynamics and low rolling resistance tyres.

You can have your new 114d with either 3 or 5 doors and you can order it now. But you’ll have to guess how much it’s going to cost as BMW hasn’t worked out yet what the Deutsch Mark will be worth in November.

The 3 Series saloon also gets new power plants with a new entry-level 316i offering a TwinTurbo 1.6 litre with 134bhp, 0-62mph in 8.9 seconds and 47.9mpg.

But perhaps the most interesting (certainly from an economy point of view) is the arrival of the new BMW 320i EfficientDynamics.

The new 320i ED gets a 1.6 litre TwinTurbo petrol with 168bhp, gets to 62mph in 7.6 seconds yet achieves 53.3mpg, emissions of 124g/km and bearable BIK rates. The new 316i saloon will cost from £22,850 and the 320d EfficientDynamics from £25,730 with both avilable from November.

Also on offer will be new engines in the new 3 Series Touring with the 320i Touring offering 182bhp and o-62mph in 7.5 seconds, available as a manual or with an 8-speed auto.

Two new diesel 3 Series Tourings will also be added – the 318d Touring and 316d Touring – with the 316d offering 115bhp and a o-62mph of 11.2 seconds and the 318d 141bhp and a 0-62mph of 9.2 seconds. Both get an official average of 60.1mpg. The 316d Touring costs from £26,180 and the 318d from £28,280.

The final update for BMW in November is the availability of BMW’s new Navigation System Professional in the 3 Series saloon as well as the Touring.

The new SatNav Pro gets more power, 3D rendering, Office and Multimedia functions as well as the ability to pair two Bluetooth phones simultaneously and a message dictation feature. The BMW Professional Media Package costs from £1,995.
