BMW M3 Frozen Gray Limited Edition announced – & sold out.

The BMW M3 Frozen Gray Limited Edition. Sold out.

No sooner had BMW sprung a nice Limited Edition BMW M3 on an unsuspecting U.S. public – the BMW M3 Frozen Gray Coupe – than they announced it was sold out. In about fifteen minutes flat, it would seem. But then BMW owners are not renowned for their patience or their ability to take their time, and as the U.S. is quite a big place – and there were only 30 cars on offer – it’s not exactly a shock.

Still, if you’d been quicker (or cared) what would you have got with your Limited Edition BMW M3, apart from a Gray paint job for this M3 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the M3?

On the outside you’d get a set of 19″ alloys and a ride height dropped a smidge, and on the interior you’d get two-tone leather (fox red/black novillo), heated seats, ‘Carbon Leather’ trim plus a decent sound system and good connectivity.

Sadly the M3 Frozen Gray is a cosmetic job mainly, so there’s no extra power from the 4.0 litre V8. But you do get M DCT and the M3 Competition Pack thrown in, together with a day at the BMW Performance Driving School in South Carolina.

Or at least you would have if they hadn’t all sold. For $77,600 + tax. But think positive. If it’s this easy to sell overpriced M3s by just sticking a colour after the M3 bit and calling it a Limited Edition, I think we’ve worked out BMW’s new marketing strategy. This one may have sold out. But there’ll be another along in a minute.

Works for DFS.
