BMW X1: Official with Video

BMW has now officially released pictures and detail on the new BMW X1

Actually, it’s not all here. BMW has gone a bit overboard with the pictures (nearly 200), so we’ve brought you another fifteen to add to the fifteen from yesterday. Enough X1 pics I think, although the beach ones do have some half decent views!

Much of what we told you yesterday covers the basics. Six models will be available initially, but only one comes with a petrol engine – the top of the range (for now) BMW X1 xDrive28i. This has four wheel drive and a 3.0 litre 258bhp petrol engine. The rest of the lineup is diesel – sDrive18d, sDrive20d, xDrive18d, xDrive20d and xDrive23d. The 18d delivers 143bhp, the 20d 177bhp and the 23d 204bhp. The ‘s’ variants are rear wheel drive and the ‘x’ variants four wheel drive.

Inside the BMW X1 gives its passengers a high-ride position, and the dash is almost ‘BMW-Retro’. The X1 gets iDrive and decent connectivity, and there are a plethora of options including parking cameras and PDC.

The exterior of the new X1 is a pretty decent job by BMW. The nose is redolent of the new 7 Series and the X1 is a little bigger than you would expect – not much smaller than the current X3. It looks remarkable low-slung at the back, which does indicate the X1′s sport pretensions, and the wide wheel arches add to the impression.

We have no word on prices yet, but the BMW X1 will launch officially at Frankfurt in September and go on sale in Europe soon after. It will be going to the States, but US BMW X1 buyers will have to wait until 2011.

BMW has gone overboard on detail and images for the X1. But in case you want every single morsel of information, take a look at the BMW X1 Press Release.
