BMW i8 EV sold out until 2015

BMW’s i3 city car EV is now starting to hit the road, and the next instalment for BMW’s EV outing is the i8 Supercar, revealed at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. Sales for the i3 have started very strongly, and it looks as though the i8 has an even stronger start with BMW confirming the whole of the first year’s run if the i8 are already spoken for.

That’s despite the BMW i8 starting at almost £100k in the UK, but the i8 does have a lot going for it.

With a 1.5 litre engine developing 228bhp – and a more fulsome 356bhp on tap when the electric power joins the party – the BMW i8 can get to 62 mph in just 4.4 seconds and yet comes with an official economy rating of 113mpg and emissions of just 59g/km.

That should be enough to give the i8 strong company car sales, but with the first year’s production already sold out it looks like anyone still wavering on buying an i8 are going to have to fork out a premium to get in to one any time soon.

Which, when you think the BMW i8 already costs £98,845, will hurt.
