The Bentley Continental Shooting Brake by Carrozzeria

A week or two back we got the sniff that Italian Coachbuilders Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera where planning on building a limited run car based on the Bentley Continental. The rumours were vague – even from Carrozzeria who simply stated “Inspired by the success and the extraordinary characteristics of Bentley automobiles, Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera of Milan, with the support of Bentley Motors Limited, developed and built a fascinating new coach built Bentley, faithful to its long tradition of Italian coach building.” Which told us not a whole lot.

But we now know that what Carrazzeria are planning is a Bentley Continental Shooting Brake – effectively a Bentley Continental GT Estate. The plan is to build just 20 of these built on the choice of either the standard Continental GT or its faster sibling the GT Speed. We have no idea on price yet, but if we base it on Zagato’s Bentley GTZ we’ll be getting close to £1 million.

Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera have not had a play with a Bentley before, but they have plenty of experience playing with Italian exotica such as Maserati, Ferrari and Lamborghini. They’ve also played with British motoring heritage before with the Aston Martin DB5 Superleggera.

We’re sure the Bentley Shooting Brake will be stunning and will no doubt find a ready market. Interestingly, the rear seats are made to fold – as you would expect in an estate car of any sort – but with the proportions of the sketch in the picture we wonder if all that putting the seats down will accomplish is an extraordinarily expensive, deluxe parcel shelf.

We’ll find out at the Geneva Motor Show.
