Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse World Record Convertible Leaks

Tue, 09 Apr 2013

It looks like the ‘New’ Bugatti promised yesterday is the Bugatti Grand Sport Vitesse World Record Convertible, not the ‘Super’ Veyron.

We should have known.

Yesterday we reported that Bugatti are teasing ’the latest example of exceptional Bugatti performance’, which we thought might be the much touted ‘Super’ Veyron offering 1600hp. But it seems not.

SuperCarKids are reporting that the new performance Veyron (grainy photo above) is actually a special edition of the Grand Sport Vitesse – the convertible version of the Veyron Super Sport – which appears to have had its world record for a production convertible ratified by Guinness after a Chinese test driver called Liu Xu drove the Grand Sport Vitesse at 254.09mph at VW’s Ehra-Lessien track.

When Bugatti revealed details of the Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse last year, they reckoned it was good for 254mph and a 0-62mph in 2.6 seconds, and it looks like that speed is now official.

Of course, the ‘Grand Sport Vitesse World Record Convertible’ isn’t really anything new, but is just another ‘Limited Edition’ Veyron with an orange and black paint job, just like the Super Sport World Record Edition.

So, it looks like the ‘Super’ Veyron and Bugatti Galibier are still just virtual possibilities at the moment, and this ‘World Record Convertible’ is the big news from Bugatti for the Shanghai Motor Show.

Which is probably what we should have expected.
