Judges have been announced for CDN's competition to develop design talent within China. In line with the competition's aims, the judging panel comprises both Western and Chinese design chiefs, who will be awarding prizes to student entrants which include placements at an international design school.

Chairing the panel for the Car Design Awards China 2010 competition will be Peter Stevens, the designer behind the McLaren F1 road car, Lotus Elan and Subaru Impreza P1 among others, and a visiting Professor of Vehicle Design at London's Royal College of Art. He is joined by a team of judges including:

Cai Qian, Head of the Shanghai Design Studio for Volkswagen

Min Cao, Director of Advanced Vehicle Design at GM PATAC

Richard Chung, Vice President for Industrial Design and Consumer Research at Johnson Controls. Chung spent 13 years with Ford in Hiroshima and Dearborn, latterly heading the North American Small Car design studio

Ding Yangfeng, Head of Design at FAW-VW

Double Du, Design Chief at PSA-Peugeot/Citroen in China

Friedhelm Engler, Design Director for GM PATAC, and formerly global compact car design director for GM, based in Europe

Simon Loasby, Director of Design at VW China, whose previous work has included Rolls-Royce and Bentley.

Robert Walker, Design Project Manager at PSA-Peugeot/Citroen China, with previous experience at Lear Corporation in South Korea and GM in Australia

Students are being asked to work to three sets of briefs, including a luxury four door sports sedan with electric propulsion, a small vehicle containing sufficient personal space inside a package which can move easily around China's crowded megacities, and a pair of cars for dual country/town use. Registration for students based in China is open now, and the deadline for submission of entries is January 31, 2010.

The prize-giving ceremony for Car Design Awards China 2010 will be in Beijing on April 21, just prior to the opening of the Auto China show. The prizes include all-expenses paid placements at the Northumbria University School of Design in the UK at the start of the 2010 academic year in September, and automatic finalist positions in the global 2010 Student Design Awards hosted by CDN's print magazine Interior Motives.
