The Chevrolet Cruze Hatch - will show at Paris

Chevrolet are trying hard in Europe. Last year we saw the launch of the Chevy Cruze in to Europe – before even the US got it – and we recently reported on the Chevrolet Orlando MPV which is due to debut at Paris in a few weeks. And now we get the hatchback version of the Chevy Cruze, catchily called the Chevrolet Cruze Hatch.

The Cruze hatch is a sensible move for Chevrolet in Europe. Although the US doesn’t really do hatches, Europe doesn’t really do saloons any more – or at least not at the Golf-sized level – so a Cruze hatch should bring the Cruze on to the radar – if not on to the driveways – of more buyers in Europe.

Chevrolet are making big play of their ‘Body Frame Integral System’ (BFI) which Chevy say will make the Cruze Hatch feel taut, as the BFI system offers high levels of stability and solidity. Hard to say as we haven’t driven one yet, but we’ll take Chevy’s word for it.

Chevrolet are billing the Cruze Hatch as a ‘Show’ car, although as far as we can see little is likely to change before production starts in mid 2011. Expect the same range of engines as the Cruze saloon, just in a more practical body.

No idea on price, but look at the saloons and you shouldn’t be far off.
