The Chrysler 300C - revised model linup for 2010 in the UK

If things move on as we expect, we could see a new Chrysler 300C before long. But in the meantime Chrysler have had a fiddle with the 300C for the UK market in 2010. Choices from 1st January 2010 are a trio of diesel powered models – 300C SE, SR and SRT – and the slightly bonkers SRT-8.

Starting point is the 300C SE with the 215bhp diesel, which gets a more than passable amount of kit. Included is stuff like dual zone climate, heated seats, leather, ABS, ESP, parking sensors, xenons, 18″ alloys and a half-decent entertainment system with Boston Acoustics sound. OTR price is £23,995.

For an extra £1000 you can move up to the 300C SR with the same diesel lump but extra kit including upgraded Boston Acoustics, better connectivity and handsfree Bluetooth. Top of the diesel heap is the 300C SRT at £27,995. This is basically a pretend SRT-8 (the mad V8 version) and gets the chrome mesh grill, 20″ alloys, wheel arch extensions, leather and suede interior and a few bits of carbon fibre thrown in.

All the diesel models come equipped with a six-speed auto ‘box and can manage the 0-60mph sprint in a quite credible 8.5 seconds. Not enough to set your hair on fire, true enough, but from a diesel engined big lump of a car none to sluggish.

If you do want to set your hair on fire then you need to opt for the 300C SRT-8 which comes with a real American Muscle V8 6.1 litre Hemi lump delivering up 425bhp, does 0-60mph in 5 seconds on its way to 165mph. Mind you, it will cost you a chunk more than its diesel-engined brethren at £41,795.

Sales of the 300C in the UK aren’t going to change the fortunes of Chrysler one way or the other. But the 300C is not a terrible car and the SRT-8 does offer a lot of performance and kit for the price.
