The 2010 Citroen C3

We first reported on the 2010 Citroen C3 back in June when Citroen released details of their new C3, but we had to wait until the Frankfurt Motor Show for the official launch of the C3. But now, five months after we first got to see where Citroen where going with the C3, they’ve released a humongous press release with every nuance of detail every prospective C3 buyer could need, so we thought we ought to do a quick re-cap / update on what the 2010 C3 has to offer in the UK.

The Citroen C3 has been a big seller for Citroen – over 2 million have been shifted in one form or another – so it’s important to Citroen that they get the 2010 C3 right. The C3 also forms the basis for the upmarket Citroen DS3 – Citroen’s take on the MINI – so a lot rides on getting things right. And, although we’re yet to drive one, the 2010 C3 does seem to have come on a long way.

Much less ‘Girly’ than the last C3, the 2010 C3 has grown up in to quite a decent looking car. The track is wider on the new model, giving the C3 a more purposeful look. Citroen has thrown in a huge panoramic screen giving a real sense of light and airiness to the cabin, and the trim levels are certainly a notch or two up on the previous C3. The C3 may have ‘Grown Up’ but it still hasn’t grown much. It’s still the shortest B2 super mini out there but, despite that, it has one of the biggest boots. It also weighs no more than the old model. Clever trick.

You get the usual range of ubiquitous engines from the 1.1 60bhp petrol lump up to the 1.6 VTi with twice that power. Also on offer are a set of diesels – 1.4 and 1.6 – with up to 110bhp and emissions as low as 99g/km on the 1.6 litre HDI Airdream.

It looks like the C3 is going to be at least as successful for Citroen as the old model. We have reservations about the panoramic screen – Vauxhall tried a similar trick on the Astra but abandoned it – as it’s somewhat less than practical when the sun is blaring down. Still, a minor gripe and you can always do without of you choose the Airdream or VT.

As we said, there is masses to read on the 2010 C3, so have a look at the Citroen C3 2010 Press Release if you want to know all there is to know on Citroen’s Super Mini.

But side aside more than a few minutes.
