The Citroen DS4 Racing Concept will debut at Geneva 2012

The Citroen DS4 Racing Concept has been revealed ahead of its Geneva 2012 debut. It features a 1.6 litre turbo with 256bhp.

Yesterday we mused that today’s reveal from Citroen would probably be of the Citroen DS4 Racing. We also mused that the 256bhp Citroen were promising from their reveal could mean a 4WD hybrid setup for the DS4 Racing. But it appears not.

After revealing the DS4 Racing a photo at a time on Facebook and Twitter, Citroen has now sent us brief information on the DS4 R, which makes no mention of a hybrid powertrain. So we must assume Citroen has managed to pull 256bhp from the 1.6 litre four-pot with lots of tweaking and fettling, and they’ve managed to keep emissions down to 155g/km in the process.

Citroen say the 1.6 litre engine has had Citroen Racing fairy dust sprinkled on it to yield 256bhp, which – at 160bhp per litre – is a Citroen production car record. The DS4 Racing gets new carbon fibre components such as diffuser, front splitter and wheel arch extensions.

The chassis on the DS4 R has been lowered by 35mm and track grows by 55mm at the front and 75mm at the back. The brakes haven’t been ignored either, with four piston callipers on 380mm discs at the front inside 19″ alloys. Citroen has also finished the DS4 R in textured-effect matt grey paint.

Citroen are billing the DS4 Racing as a concept, but it seems all but certain it will make a limited production run, just like the Citreon DS3 Racing. If it does, and if it keeps the same 256bhp output, it will give hot Fords and Renaults a run for their money with a likely mid-5 second 0-62mph.
