Citroen DS5 - Production ready at Frankfurt

The Citroen DS5 debuted at Shanghai earlier this year – after a suitable tease, of course – but is arriving at Frankfurt as a production-ready car.

Not that we can work out what Citroen has changed on the DS5 to make it production-ready. It still looks concept-y good to our eyes, and has a more than fighting chance of making inroads against more conservatively styled competition.

The DS5 will also see the start of the PSA HYbrid4 powertrain in a Citroen. Peugeot has already debuted the technology in the 3008, and the 508 RXH will be at Frankfurt with the same powertrain (it’s the same car as the DS5, really).

The HYbrid4 setup means the very good-looking DS5 gets 200bhp, 4WD, six-speed ‘box and auto stop-start. It also means headline CO2 of just 99g/km and a doubtlessly barking daft mpg figure – which Citroen hasn’t given us.

It will also mean the same four-mode driving as the 3008 gets. That will give you the choice of an all-electric, zero emission setting, a completely automatic one where the DS5 sorts it out for you, 4WD, which does what it says and Sport, which throws everything at making the DS5 perform.

And it’s sport that really personifies the aims of the DS5; that and a decent level of luxury and toys. Toy that will include stuff like Intelligent traction Control, Lane Departure Warning, Auto High Beam and a heads-up display.

With the Citroen C5 topping out at £30k, it’s a fairly safe bet that the DS5 will start at not much less when it goes on sale in the Spring.

And the Citroen DS5 HYbrid4 will be a chunk more.
