Corvette Stingray-based Callaway AeroWagon gets the green light

Thu, 03 Oct 2013

We first saw renderings of the Callaway AeroWagon, an angular shooting brake based off the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, back in March. Back then, Callaway said it would produce the customized C7 if demand was sufficient.

Apparently, the Connecticut-based tuner decided that demand was, indeed, sufficient. It recently announced that the AeroWagon would enter production, with examples ready for delivery in January 2014.

The C7 already features lines vaguely resembling those of a Ferrari F12; the AeroWagon rounds out the lineup by offering the hatchback versatility of the Ferrari FF. Callaway says that the design of the shooting brake rear-end, which replaces the large hatch on stock Vettes, should work to make the car slightly more aerodynamic. Whether or not the look works for you personally, the Callaway expects the AeroWagon based on its upcoming supercharged Corvette will be capable of exceeding 200 mph when completed -- not too shabby. We wouldn't be surprised if a forced-induction setup similar to the one the company is installing on 2014 Chevrolet Silverados and GMC Sierras is responsible for the extra power and speed.

If you have your heart set on the AeroWagon, you probably have a blank check made out to Callaway at the ready. The rest of us might be curious to know the price: $15,000 for the shooting brake tail end in natural carbon fiber, and $16,500 gets you the same thing but painted to match the car body.

That's on top of the C7's $51,995 price, of course, but a distinctive shooting brake starting at under $80,000? Sure sounds like a bargain to us. Head to Callaway for more information.
