Datsun set to launch new car on July 15

Tue, 02 Jul 2013

Datsun -- that's right we said Datsun -- revealed teaser sketches on Tuesday of its first new generation car, which will be unveiled in New Delhi, India on July 15. Normally we don't go much for teasers, but when it's a “new” car brand, we take notice.

Datsun operated worldwide starting in 1914, until the last badge was peeled off a car in 1986, being replaced by Nissan. In the 1970s many of the cars sported the “Datsun by Nissan” moniker.

Nissan says the car will be the first product aimed for the Indian market, and the first of a model launch beginning in 2014. We first learned of Datsun's resurgence in March of 2012.

India, Indonesia and Russia will be the first to find the cars on dealer lots, followed by South Africa later in 2014. Nissan says the new Datsuns will offer customers in high-growth markets “an engaging driving experience, peace of mind ownership and accessibility at the right price.”

Vincent Cobee, the new head of Datsun, said, "Datsun will bring competitive products and services, modern and aspirational, while at the same time reassuring, providing superior value and specifically developed for the emerging and ambitious new middle class in high-growth markets.”

Datsun.com will launch with brand and product information on July 15.
