Enjoy this forgotten toy car TV show from the 1980s

Thu, 24 Oct 2013

We'd remembered being fans of a car-centered TV show in the late 1980s or early '90s. We'd watched every live-action episode for at least a couple of years. We'd clearly remember begging our mom for one of the toy cars featured on the show. Then, with dreams of winning one of the competitions that the show held at malls all over the country, we'd begged her for a hotter engine for the car and a new set of tires. She never caved, knowing that the cars would eventually end up melted or blown up with bottle rockets. We may have been able to talk her into a "Record Breakers" BK Kid's Meal but that can't be confirmed.

Yesterday, we started Googling around, looking for traces of the show on the internet. Here's what we found on Wikipedia:

-The show was called "Record Breakers"

-There were only four episodes of the TV show.

-Jesse Ventura was one of the show's hosts. The other was Gary Apple.

-The toys -- which are similar to Mini 4WD cars -- were introduced in Japan before they were introduced in the US.

Does anyone else remember this stuff?
