Fabrizio Giugiaro conferred honorary doctorate

Fabrizio Giugiaro, Co-Chairman and Styling Director of Italdesign Giugiaro, has been given an honorary Doctorate by the Georgian Technical University (GTU) for his achievements in the fields of architecture and the technology and design of the automobile as well as his support in the creation and promotion of the institution's International School of design.

During the ceremony, held on 15 March in the Georgian city of Tbilisi, Dean, Prof. Dr. Archill Prangishvili, underlined Giugiaro's achievements, covering his over 25 years of design activity, including his collaboration with leading manufacturers including GM, Toyota and Hyundai. Italian Ambassador Federica Favi and the Georgian Ministers of Education and Sciences also attended the event.

"He soon proved to the experts of the automotive world his ability to handle the most diverse and challenging areas of car design: from structural architecture to the study of volumes and proportions, ergonomics, aerodynamics, aesthetics combined with technology and the choice of materials," Dr. Prangishvili said.

Giugiaro said, "Drawing on experience from my father, I had the great opportunity to be able to make my passion my work, seeking, with the help of partners, customers and friends, to turn my ideas into reality.

"The journey was long and was inundated with obstacles, but thanks to the tenacity and strong will that everyone must make to pursue their goals, with my company I was able to realize my dreams on a journey of style, design and innovation in the wake of tradition and the Italian love for all that is beautiful," he added.

Giugiaro was appointed Styling Director in 2006, and under his management and supervision the company produced cars such as the Maserati Spyder and the Maserati 4200 Coupé, the Daihatsu Move, the Ssangyong Rexton and the Lamborghini Gallardo.
