Ferrari 599XX raises €1.4 million in Ferrari earthquake auction

The auction by Ferrari to raise funds for victims of the earthquake in the Emilia Romagna region has raised €1.8 million.

The Ferrari auction to raise money for victims of the earthquake in the Emilia Romagna region in Italy only kicked off two weeks ago, but has already ended with a total of over €1.8 million raised.

The vast majority of the funds raised came from the sale of the Ferrari 599XX which sold to an American buyer for €1.4 million – almost a bargain.

The successful buyer of the 599XX doesn’t just get a track day Ferrari, he (or she) also gets their car – which has a plaque signed by Chairman Luca di Montezemolo – personally delivered by  Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa at the next Monza Grand Prix.

Other items that raised chunky money include the F60 nose cone, which raised €23,000, and an engine from the F2008, with which Ferrari won the constructor’s title, which was bought by a Brit for €80k – twice the reserve.

Every lot on offer got multiple bids and the €1.8 million raised included a donation from a Russian client who donated €100k and the proceeds from the sale of Scuderia Ferrari watches.

Ferrari Chairman, Luca di Montezemolo, said:

A pole position result: I knew I could count on the big-heartedness of the Ferraristi but they’ve still managed to surprise me once again.

I would like to thank all the clients, collectors and enthusiasts that did their bit. Their bids have sent out a message of warmth and solidarity to the people in our region affected by this tragedy.

A terrific result, and hats off to Ferrari for their efforts.
