The Ferrari Enzo abandoned in Dubai

The Enzo Ferrari abandoned in Dubai for 18 months, and reportedly due to be auctioned off, is not being sold according to reports from the Emirates.

The Interwebs have been full of an Enzo abandoned in Dubai and gathering dust being impounded by police and auctioned off this week. But we didn’t run the story.

We’d been told by a contact in Dubai that the Enzo, and a number of other high-end cars, weren’t part of the regular car auctions by police in Dubai – who regularly auction-off cars abandoned for more than six months – but were actually part of a crime investigation.

That snippet of news has now been confirmed by the Emirates 24|7 website who have spoken to the local police Captain in Dubai who says that nine high-end cars – including the Enzo – are part of a criminal investigation. He said:

We have received many calls from traders – Britons, Americans, Russians and Indians – wanting to buy the Ferrari Enzo… [but] the one Ferrari Enzo and the other regular Ferrari are required by Interpol. So, the nine cars are not for sale.

In fact far from raising millions the sale this week of seized cars in Dubai only raised £225,000 for the 127 cars on offer.

The authorities in Dubai auction off over 1,000 abandoned cars every year, usually after the owners flee the country to avoid debts or fines.
