Ferrari F40: 60 F40s parade at Silverstone Classic (+video)

Tue, 24 Jul 2012

A total of 60 Ferrari F40s took to the Silverstone track at last weekend’s Silverstone Classic to celebrate 25 years of the F40 – a world record.

Perhaps, just perhaps, the Ferrari F40 is Ferrari’s finest hypercar and stands as Enzo Ferrari’s last automotive statement before his death a year after the F40 launched in 1987.

To celebrate the F40′s 25th birthday the Silverstone Classic gathered together as many F40s as they could muster for a parade lap at Silverstone at the weekend. In total 60 F40s out of the original 1,315 F40s built made the effort to turn the Silverstone track a glorious shade of Ferrari Red.

Based on the Ferrari 288 GTO, the Ferrari F40 has a 2936cc V8 with twin turbos (which we thought might make a return in the new Ferrari F70 – but won’t) delivering 471bhp and, thanks to a weight of just 1100kg, managed 0-62mph in 4.1 seconds and was theĀ firstĀ road legal car to break the 200mph barrier.

The F40 is also the progenitor for the less loved Ferrari F50 and the Enzo Ferrari (F60), a lineage that will continue with the new Ferrari F70, which will debut later this year.

The Ferrari F40 is also a much better place to stick your life savings than a bank.
