Fiat 500byGucci. Yep, another ‘Special’ Fiat 500

Fiat 500byGucci - legs by Natasha Poly

Somewhere along the way both Fiat and MINI decided that the ultimate marketing tool for their trendy, retro-inspired superminis was an endless stream of variations and special editions. And it’s worked.

So it’s no surprise then that we’ve got another new Fiat 500 to add to the list of special edition Fiat 500s, this time it’s linking to an iconic design brand with the Fiat 500byGucci (and that’s Fiat’s joined-up ’500 by Gucci’, not our fat fingers on the keyboard).

In celebration of Italy’s 150th Anniversary of Unification and Gucci’s 90th anniversary, Gucci Creative Director Frida Giannini worked with Fiat’s designers to create the 500 Gucci.

This particular Fiat 500 comes in either black or white with lumps of chrome, the interlocking ‘GG’ logo on the hubcaps (yes, hubcaps) and Gucci’s signature green and red stripe running around all over the place.

Enginje choices are a pair of petrols, either the 1.2 litre at £14,565 or the award-winning 900cc TwinAir at £15,765.

Whichever you choose the only way to get a 500byGucci is to go online,  just as you had to with a previous joined-up Fiat 500 special – the Fiat 500 byDiesel. Although the site isn’t open for business yet. Go figure, as our colonial cousins would say.

But possibly the most appealing part of the 500byGucci campaign is the decision to get Russian model Natalya Sergeyevna Polevshchikova (aka Natasha Poly) to drape her endless legs across the 500byGucci in as series of adverts you’ll see popping up for the Gucci 500.

It would seem that someone at Fiat has a penchant for using leggy blondes to pique interest in the 500. We had Elle Macpherson promoting the 500C when that was launched, and now Natasha Poly on the 500byGucci.

Not that we object. In the slightest.
