MINI Coupe - first production car rolls out at Cowley

We’ve only recently had the reveal of the new MINI Coupe – well, the production car reveal, that is.

We had the first reveal of the MINI Coupe Concept nearly two years ago and, despite the production MINI Coupe looking almost exactly the same as the concept, MINI managed to do the production reveal in two stages – one with swirly disguise round the rump followed by a full reveal a week or three later.

Still, all the pre-production marketing flim-flam out of the way, MINI are getting down to actually making the car that promises to be the most fun (modern) MINI so far, and the very first MINI Coupe has now rolled off the production line at Cowley – cue PR opportunity.

So MINI grabbed some local big-wigs – local MP Andrew Smith and local councillors – and mixed them up with MINI plant director Jürgen Hedrich and some of the Coupe project team for a photo op. And a quote or two, this one from Jürgen :

The car has a unique and strong design but still retains MINI’s exciting and distinctive go-kart feel.

The aim with the MINI Coupé is to give its new owners the most thrilling MINI driving experience possible. Every aspect of the car – from the engines and chassis set up to the weight distribution and aerodynamics – is focused on delivering the optimum dynamic performance.

Just as we saw with the first production models of the Range Rover Evoque recently, this lightening Blue MINI Coupe isn’t destined for a customer but for a UK MINI dealership where it will initially be used as a dealer trainer.

If you’re an actual paying customer you’re going to have to wait until October for the first UK cars.

Hopefully we won’t have to wait that long to get our hands on a MINI JCW Coupe.
