Ford has sold 250,000 new Fiesta in its first nine months

Ford has announced that in the first nine months of production, the new Ford Fiesta has shifted a very impressive 250,000 units, more than any previous Fiesta managed in the same time-frame.

I can’t say we’re too surprised by this. We really like the Ford Fiesta. It’s a cracking little car. It handles well, looks good and has a high-quality feel about it. And in these troubled times, with many people looking to trade down in size, the Ford Fiesta cushions the blow by offering driving dynamics, style and features you would once only have found in a much more expensive car.

And if economy is your bag, the Ford Fiesta ECOnetic is a great choice. True, we weren’t overly impressed with its cost, but as a car it’s great. The little light to tell you to shift up to save fuel is irritating (but that’s the point of an ECO car), but in every other way it was superb. And far from slow.

But if things carry on as they are, this new Fiesta is going to break every record in the book. Ford currently has 100 new Fiestas doing the rounds of journalists and others in the US, as a prelude to offering the car for sale in the former colonies. And with Americas new enthusiasm for small cars, we could see the new Fiesta selling even more over the pond than in Europe.

To add to the good news for Ford, the Fiesta was the top selling car in Europe last month, shifting 52,000+ units.
