The Ford Focus RS 500 getting teased on Ford micro-site

One of the best cars Ford has produced – ever – is the Focus RS. Yes, it’s OTT and designed for the Playstation generation rather than people past the first flush of youth, but it brings a huge grin to my face every time I drive one. The Focus RS review we did last year was a blast – especially the opportunity to compare the Focus RS to the Escort Mexico Mk I. A cracking day of fun. But then RS Fords always are. And now there’s going to be another to play with – the Ford Focus RS 500.

Last month we told you of Ford’s plans for a swansong version of the Focus RS, which we thought would arrive as the Focus RS Clubsport. But it looks as if Ford have been digging in the RS history bin and have fished out a name last used on the Sierra Cosworth – RS 500. So we’re gong to get a 350bhp Focus RS 500 to round off the life of the current Focus RS.

Ford are teasing the Focus RS 500 on a new micro site, which tells us the RS 500 will get revealed on 31st March. Beyond that there’s not a lot. The picture at the top is a grab from the Ford micro site and the video below – apart from an in-the-dark rear end – is a driver’s eye view of the Focus RS 500 on Ford’s Lommel proving ground in Belgium.

About all we know, apart from the fact it is expected to get 350bhp – a very useful jump on the regular RS – is that all models will be in matt black with black alloys and red brake callipers.

Maybe Ford listened. We asked for a more subtle version. Matt black is more subtle than Kermit green. And more power as well.

Where do I sign?
