Ford Focus ST price from £21,995

Mon, 28 May 2012

Ford has announced that the new Focus ST will cost £21,995 and the Ford Focus ST Estate £23,095. Goes on sale 1st June.

To be honest, we’ve been expecting the new Ford Focus ST to start heading for showrooms for a while, but for whatever reason Ford has kept delaying its arrival. But no more.

The Focus ST officially goes on sale on 1st June and will cost £21,995 for the five door hatch, which pitches the Focus ST at a very competitive price point compared to rivals – the Golf GTi is £4k more and the (admittedly more powerful) Astra VXR £5k more expensive than Ford’s hot-ish Focus. The Focus ST Estate will cost an extra £1,100.

With 247bhp and 265lb/ft of torque from its 2.0 litre EcoBoost lump the Focus ST promises  performance close to the old Focus RS but with the ability to be far more parsimonious than the old 2.5 litre 5-pot could ever be.

That leaves us with the question of the lack of a three door Focus ST, which points very firmly towards the imminent arrival of a Focus ST Coupe, just as we predicted (as the new Ford Capri) in 2009 and then again 18 months ago when the Focus ST Coupe was back in the news.

What we don’t know is whether Ford will deliver the Focus Coupe with the Focus moniker or something new (or, indeed, something old) and whether we will see more prosaic versions than the ST Coupe and, hopefully, the RS Coupe.

But the lower, wider and more dynamic Focus Coupe is just round the corner. The only question is how long has the delay with the Focus ST held up the arrival of the Focus Coupe?
