Frugal new entry-level Audi Q3 1.4 TFSI

Wed, 29 Jan 2014

Audi has launched a new entry-level Q3 1.4 TFSI, available with front-wheel drive only.

It’s billed as an alternative to the Audi Q3 2.0 TDI, and so potent is the turbocharged petrol engine, it shouldn’t be seen as a poor relation.

The Q3 1.4 TFSI develops 150hp between 5,000 and 6,000rpm, and maximum of torque of 184lb ft from 1,750 to 3,000rpm. It’s available with either a six-speed manual or a seven-speed “S tronic” twin-clutch automatic transmission.

When mated to the manual gearbox, Audi claims 47.9mpg combined, dropping slightly to 45.6mpg with the seven-speed auto. CO2 emissions are 137g/km and 145g/km, respectively.

But whilst the manual offers better economy and efficiency, the S tronic delivers better performance. 0-62mph takes 8.9 seconds compares to 9.2, whilst the 126mph top speed is 2mph higher.

Prices for the new entry-level Q3 start at £23,870 in SE trim, with the seven-speed S tronic available for £25,365. The more desirable S line model starts at £26,620 for the manual and £28,115 for the S tronic.

However, if you prefer your compact crossover SUVs to have a little more punch and four-wheel drive, Audi is now offering a new S line Plus range, and it’s available exclusively on the Q3 quattro. Prices start at £31,835 for the 2.0 TFSI turbo petrol with six-speed manual.

All versions boast 19-inch alloys, privacy glass from the B-pillar back, a choice of seven metallic paint options, a perforated leather and Alcantara interior, cruise control, and parking system – in addition to the standard S line package.

The range-topping 2.0 TDI S line Plus turbodiesel quattro with optional seven-speed S tronic transmission is priced at £34,595.

The Audi Q3’s new entry-level engine and its new S line Plus specification are both on sale and available to order now.
