Half of drivers try home fixes

ALMOST HALF of the UK’s drivers have tried to fix their car at home with help from an online video rather than take it to a garage.

A study by breakeryard.com shows two-fifths of drivers use videos from websites such as Youtube to learn how to fix their car. The study also showed that more than half (54%) had also tried to fix their car at home to save money on repair bills.

A quarter of those polled also said they had carried out major repairs at home and they enjoyed working on their car instead of giving it to a mechanic to fix.

Matt Bott, of Breakeryard, said: ‘Something going wrong with a car is one of the biggest headaches as we fear the inevitable repairs costs. However, it seems many drivers are getting around this with DIY as car parts are not as expensive as people might think and it’s labour costs that add to the final bill.

‘In some instances, it’s best to leave work to the experts, but drivers should not be afraid of their car as it’s not as scary as it might seem.’
