Honda Fit EV prices drop

Thu, 30 May 2013

Responding to price-dropping offers from other automakers on their electric vehicles, Honda will slash the lease deal for its Fit EV starting in June.

From the current level of a zero-down, $389/month lease, Honda has lowered the price to zero down and $259/month. Also, for any current holder of a Honda Fit EV lease, effective June 1, their monthly lease payment will also drop to $259 a month.

The offer includes collision insurance, scheduled maintenance, unlimited mileage and a 240-volt Leviton charger -- though it doesn't include home installation.

The only out-of-pocket cost at lease inception is the first month's lease payment, license and registration fees.

“There's never been an upfront [capitalized cost] payment, and there will never be,” said spokeswoman Robyn Eagles.

Also, by the end of June, Honda is expanding the network of certified Fit EV dealers in California, Oregon, New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Maryland, Rhode Island and Connecticut, from 36 to more than 200 showrooms.

Nissan recently cut the entry price on its Leaf EV with a decontented entry-level model, with a lease price of $199 a month and a $1,999 down payment.
