Hyundai Veloster roof recall expands

Thu, 28 Feb 2013

Hyundai is recalling more 2012 Veloster hatchbacks with panoramic sunroofs to fix a weakened assembly that may cause the sunroofs to shatter while driving.

The recall impacts 6,071 Velosters manufactured from July 4-Oct. 31, 2011.

In December, Hyundai issued a recall of 2012 Veloster models built from Nov. 1, 2011 to April 17, 2012 because of the shattering sunroofs.

A preliminary evaluation was done in October after 11 consumer complaints of shattered sunroofs. Hyundai found 76 warranty claims, 20 customer complaints and six field reports referring to the glass.

According to the recall, the assembly was weakened at the factory.

Hyundai will notify owners beginning in March, and dealers will inspect the sunroof's integrity and replace the sunroof glass assembly for free.

Owners may contact Hyundai at (800) 633-5151, or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Vehicle Safety Hotline at (888) 327-4236.
