Hyundai i30 hits a million

Fri, 07 Dec 2012

Hyundai has revealed it has now built more than a million i30s with European sales accounting for 500,000 of those sales.

Get over the latent badge snoberry and the Hyundai i30 is a family car that can be considered a real alternative to the leading cars in its sector – the VW Golf and Ford Focus – with a good combination of style, equipment, decent driving dynamics and cost.

Set aside that badge snobbery and any buyer looking for a family car should really have these three – the i30, Golf and Focus - on their top three list; the rest is down to a subjective judgement.

That conclusion is borne out by the news from Hyundai that the i30 – since it was launched in 2007 – has now sold more than a million cars globally, with over 500,000 sold in Europe and a similar number actually built in Europe at Hyundai’s plant in Nošovice, Czech Republic, to supply not just the European market but markets around the world.

That fact alone negates the French claim that Hyundai ‘imports’ are wrecking the French car market (the French car market is actually being wrecked by over capacity and cars that don’t measures up to the sector best) and is testament to Hyundai’s resolve to produce the right cars for each market and build the bulk of them where they’re sold.

Alan Rushforth, Hyundai Europe VP, said:

Since launch in 2007, the i30 has become the centre of gravity for our brand in Europe. It was our first car to de designed and made here, offering customers high quality, low emissions and great value – characteristics now synonymous with the Hyundai brand.

Didn’t they do well?
