India Grand Prix (2013) qualifying: Dominant Vettel takes pole for Red Bull

Sebastian Vettel had a chance to take the 2013 F1 drivers title in Japan, but Alonso managed to spoil that by finishing in fourth spot. But there seems little to stop Vettel taking the title in India tomorrow after a dominant display put him in pole position for tomorrow’s race. Vettel took pole by 0.752s from Rosberg with Rosberg’s team mate, Lewis Hamilton taking third spot and the second Red Bull of Mark Webber lining up in fourth. The only man with a theoretical chance of stopping Vettel, Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso, will start in eighth place.

Behind the top four comes Massa in the Ferrari in fifth, Raikkonen’s Lotus in sixth, Sauber’s Hulkenberg in seventh and the McLarens of Perez and Button in ninth and tenth behind Alonso.

But tomorrow’s race could still be intriguing with a mix of tyre strategies at the start, with some drivers on the softs, which will be quicker from the off but fall away quickly, and others on the mediums.

So the start could see a real mix-up but, as all drivers have to use both tyres at some point in the race, it should all level out.

But with Vettel on pole – having led every lap of every Grand Prix in India to date – there seems almost zero chance he will fail to finish the fourth or better he needs to wrap up another drivers title.

The fat lady should be singing for Vettel tomorrow.
