Infiniti JX Concept - the tease ends

We bit the bullet when Infiniti got to tease two of the Infiniti JX Concept, and we’ve managed to stick with it all the way through until this, tease six – the final piece of the jigsaw. Well, apart from the interior, that is, but we’ll have to wait until Pebble for that.

This time Infiniti tease us with the only view we haven’t had so far of the JX - the front three quarters. And despite our moans about the interminable tease, the JX looks half way promising – at least cosmetically.

We’re guessing Infiniti are aiming this JX crossover/SUV at big SUVs like the X5 and Q7, hence the seven seats. Although it does seem to be based on the same platform as the Murano rather than the QX. Which means Infiniti probably has no real ambitions for the JX to be anything more than a crossover – and perhaps FWD at that rather than 4WD.

Engines also seem unlikely to light up the traffic light grand prix, with reports that Infiniti has trademarked monikers such as JX20, JX25, JX25h and JX30, which suggest performance isn’t going to be at the heart of the JX offering.

So we assume what is going to be at the heart of the Infiniti JX is comfort, room and toys. And there’s definitely a market for a crossover / people carrier / SAV with all those virtues, and Infiniti has a chance of making the JX a credible alternative for those looking for something perceived t0 be in the same league as the X5 and Q7.

But that would be a target market who have no interest in performance, handling or off-road ability in their seven seat crossover. Sounds rather like the Infiniti JX is aimed at our colonial cousins.

Which probably precludes the JX from ever making it to our shores.
