Chris Evans has bought a Ferrari 250 GTO

Well, there’s a turn up for the books.

We were busy teasing Chris Evans in the piece we did earlier today on the Ferrari 250 GTO. We know it’s his dream car and  he’s been quoted on numerous occassions – we’ve even heard him say it – that he’s no longer wealthy enough to buy the one car his heart truly desires – the Ferrari 250 GTO.

We knew Chris was busy selling Ferraris and not buying but we had no idea he’d decided that he would have the 250 GTO come hell or high water. But he obviously has. We’ve spent a few hours making phone calls and twisting arms and we are now certain that Chris is the proud owner of Ferrari 250 GTO chassis no. 4675 GT, despite his words in the Telegraph two years ago when Chris said:

“They only made 39 of them [250 GTOs], most of them have been crashed – and none of them is for sale, at least not officially. Fifteen years ago I could afford one; now I will probably never be able to afford one again. The Ferrari 250 GTO is, without doubt, the most sought-after car in the world.”

The picture Chris Evans posted on Twitter

Chris also bought the James Coburn Ferrari 250 GT California Spyder through R.M. Auctions, but in that case he had to do it in auction – and at a record breaking price. Apparently.  This time it was a private deal.

We’ve also discovered that Chris has posted a photo of this car on Twitter (left), with the caption ‘The new one has arrived’. Seems pretty conclusive.

Mind you, when we reported Chris was flogging another Ferrari Spider a few months back we did speculate that Chris may be cashing in his Ferrari chips to play for the 250 GTO. Looks like we woz right.

But there’e one thing we need to know. Chris, are you going to paint it white?

Please say no.
