Jaguar XJ Ultimate

The Jaguar XJ Ultimate will be unveiled tomorrow at the Beijing Motor Show with all the bells and whistles at a likely £30k premium.

Yesterday we reported that Jaguar are planning to reveal the ‘Most Luxurious Jaguar Ever’ at the Beijing Motor Show on Monday. We thought it might be the much anticipated Jaguar XJ Coupe. But it seems wish was father to the thought as it turns out to be the Jaguar XJ Ultimate, a regular Jaguar with lots of sybaritic extras thrown in to the mix.

The XJ Ultimate is Jaguar’s answer to the businessman’s first class express models created by the likes of Maybach and Bentley and RR and every other maker of luxury cars that hopes there’s a market for an ‘Ultimate’ version.

And it worked for Land Rover with the Range Rover Ultimate, where all those built seemed to have sold easily despite a premium of around £30k.

So now it’s Jaguar’s turn with an XJL with every toy in Jaguar’s arsenal – and then some – on the spec list. Want iPads? you’ve got a couple – one in each back tray. Want to watch a bit of TV or a film? No problem, there’s a pair of screens in the back of the front headrest and a pair of wireless headphones too.

But if you prefer to relax than there’s a wine cooler in the middle – between the two individual, reclining, rear seats - perfect for a bottle of bubbles. There’s also room for a couple of flutes in the new full-length centre console, which also boasts a rising drinks tray.

Everywhere else the Jaguar XJ Ultimate gets the best Jaguar can offer. We don’t have the official information yet, but we understand Jaguar intend offering the Ultimate Edition in all flavours of engine – 3.0 litre diesel, 5.0 litre petrol and Supercharged – which, if we assume a similar premium to the Range Rover Ultimate, will mean a price range between £100-£125k.

We’ll find out more tomorrow.
