Jaguar F-Type 3.0 litre V6 Supercharged engine trailered (video)

Mon, 18 Jun 2012

The Jaguar F-Type is to get a new 3.0 litre V6 Supercharged engine and Jaguar are trailing it in a new video ahead of launch.

We finally learnt in April that the C-X16 Concept would come to life as the Jaguar F-Type and just a few days later that the F-Type would be getting a new V6 supercharged 3.0 litre engine (amongst others).

But with the launch of the Jaguar F-Type Roadster still almost a year away (spring 2013), Jaguar are keeping up the marketing impetus with a trailer video of the new supercharged lump destined for the E-Type’s spiritual successor.

Jaguar say the V6 S/C delivers a high specific output from its Roots Twin-Vortex supercharging system with instant torque for greater efficiency and offers smooth, refined power delivery. But they also say it has 340PS.

We thought Jaguar were goinmg to offer two flavours of the new V6 S/C lump, with a 340PS version being used to replace the naturally aspirated V8 in the XJ and XF and a higher (375bhp) output version destined to give the F-Type a bit more oomph. But this video seems to suggest otherwise.

It could be that Jaguar will be offering both power outputs in the F-Type, or it could be they’ve had a change of heart and decided a 375bhp (380PS) V6 will be too close in performance terms to the planned V8 Supercharged version of the F-Type.

We’ve asked Jaguar if they have any comment and we’ll update if we hear back.

Update: We’ve spoken to Jaguar and they’ve confirmed that the F-Type will be offered with both the 340PS and 380PS versions of the new 3.0 litre S/C engine. So now you can start guessing what monikers they’ll get.
