Jaguar F-Type: Official

Wed, 26 Sep 2012

The new 2013 Jaguar F-Type is officially revealed with even more photos and video of Jaguar’s new sports car.

Just as we’ve already seen, the F-Type is very much a driver-focused car with a cocooning cockpit and plenty of style and a mission to deliver a sports car with soul, looks and performance.

Underpinning the F-Type is a lightweight aluminium structure with all aluminium double wishbones and a quick ratio steering rack, and all that stiff aluminium means a Jaguar that is 30 per cent stiffer than anything that has gone before.

There will be a trio of models to choose from when the F-Type goes on sale – the F-Type , F-Type S and F-Type V8 S. The entry-level F-Type will get the 340PS version of Jaguar’s new Supercharged V6 offering a very decent 0-60mph of 5.1 seconds and 209g/km emissions.

The bigger performance V6 Supercharged with 380 PS manages the 0-60mph sprint in 4.8 seconds and 213g/km emissions whilst the (for now) range topping F-Type V8 S has 495PS and does 0-60mph in 4.2 seconds with 259g/km emissions.

The performance of the F-Type is very credible, thanks to its lightweight structure in no small part, and Jaguar has added an aural dimension to the performance by fitting an active exhaust on the V6 S and V8 S which opens the exhaust under load from 3000rpm onwards.

The F-Types all get an eight-speed ‘box offering closely spaced sport ratios and the V6 S also gets a Dynamic Launch feature for a quick getaway.

Ian Hoban, Vehicle Line Director, Jaguar said:

With the F-TYPE, the Jaguar engineering team focused on delivering greater dynamic driving reward than ever before. To make that a reality, every engineer has had very tough targets to hit: every one of those targets has been met and, in many cases, exceeded, making the F-TYPE a car that delivers precisely the key sporting attributes that we intended

It’s all stacking up to be a cracking car if the F-Type can deliver on its promise and be robustly built. But how much is the Jaguar F-Type, you may ask? Well, Jaguar say it will start at £58.5k, and we expect it to climb to £80k for the V8 S. Which does seem a bit too much.
