Jaguar topped the 2014 J.D. Power Survey alongside Lexus

It’s time for the 2014 J.D. Power Survey results, and this year the honours for top car maker have been shared between Jaguar – which has won in the last two years – and Lexus, which won for the previous 11 years. Behind Jaguar and Lexus came Mercedes in third, Skoda in fourth and Volkswagen in fifth. Bottom of the list was Chevrolet – for the third year in a row – with owners complaining about poor reliability.

But despite that shared award as best car makers, both Lexus and Jaguar only managed one place each in the list of the top ten cars – Lexus came in seventh for the CT200h and Jaguar tenth for the XF.

In fact it was Volkswagen which took all the glory in the individual car awards with the VW Up! ion first place and the VW Golf taking second.

Third place went to another VW Group car – the Skoda Yeti – 5th to the VW Scirocco, 6th to the VW Tiguan and 7th to the Skoda Octavia. Quite an achievement. Other top ten entries went to the Mercedes C Class in 4th and Volvo V70 in 7th.

At the bottom of the table of cars came the Chevrolet Spark, with complaints about the low quality interior and HVAC and, most damning of all for an ‘Eco’ car, poor fuel consumption.

The 2014 J.D. Power Survey results came from a poll of 15,000 car owners/drivers – surveyed between January and March 2014 – and only for cars which sell more than 4,000 units a year, a total of 109 models.
