Jaguar has revealed this morning that its new smaller Saloon will be the Jaguar XE, and that its new range of engines will be the Ingenium. Beyond that, we don’t get a lot more than we already know. Heading for an arrival in 2015, the Jaguar XE (we always doubted the commonly accepted Jaguar XS moniker) will be the first car in its segment to have an aluminium monocoque and, say Jaguar, is set to be the most advanced and efficient sports saloon in its sector and will be the first production Jaguar using the new aluminium architecture used for the Jaguar C-X17 SUV Concept.

Also on the way – and heading for the new Jaguar XE first – are Jaguar’s new range of 4-cylinder 2.0 litre petrol and diesel engines, a range of engines Jaguar say will give the new XE class-leading performance and economy with versions capable of emissions under 100g/km and top speeds of over 186mph (but not both in the same car, we assume).

Ian Callum, Jaguar’s Design Boss, said:

The new Jaguar XE is every bit a modern Jaguar; more compact in size but visually striking.

Customers will expect a great deal from a mid-size Jaguar – it must be practical but premium.  We never forget we are designing a Jaguar and that means it must be as exciting to look at and drive as it is brilliant to run and practical to own. We believe we we’ve done just that with the Jaguar XE.

Full specs and range details will be revealed later in 2014 (probably with a debut at the Paris Motor Show in September) before the new Jaguar XE starts to roll out in 2015.
