Jaguar XF Estate Confirmed - finally

We’ve been expecting Jaguar to expand the XF range by bringing to market the Jaguar XF Estate for at least the last two years. But so far they’ve resisted.

Jaguar has confessed that it is their plan to expand the successful XF range by adding the new models we’ve long expected – the XF Estate, XF Coupe and XF Convertible – even if until quite recently Jaguar were privately claiming the lack of an all wheel drive platform for the XF mitigated against it.

We can see the logic of that argument – particularly in countries like Germany and Austria and the NE snow belt of the States – but there’s a big market for XF-sized premium estates even without 4WD; just look ate the sales the E-Class Estate, A6 Avant and 5-Series Touring enjoy.

But now, 4WD platform or not (although we think that’s on the way too), Jaguar has finally confessed they are going to build the XF Estate. Andrew Whyman, XF Vehicle Engineering Manager for Jaguar, has told Carsales in Australia, speaking of the XF Estate, that “”I can’t say when or how much, but it is on the cards.” He went on to say:

“Ian Callum [Jaguar design chief] will do something different with this. It will be slightly different, with character and panache.”

Which sounds like the XF Estate is already signed off for production, so we could see it by Frankfurt in September (although we predicated that for Frankfurt 2010 too!) and in showrooms by early 2012.

Now where do I sign for a Jaguar XFR Estate with 4WD?
