Jaguar XFR-S: Official

Wed, 28 Nov 2012

The barn-storming Jaguar XFR-S – Jaguar’s most powerful saloon car ever – has bowed in at LA. Full details and lots more photos of the new XFR-S.

Following on from the XKR-S – and arriving in the same French Blue – the Jaguar XFR-S gets a 40 horse jump over the XFR – and an extra 41lb/ft of torque too – to offer a potentially BMW M5 competing 550HP and 502lb/ft of torque, enough to hit 62mph in 4.6 seconds and on to 186mph (not quite up with the M5, but getting there).

To help row that extra power along, the XFR-S gets the Quickshift eight-speed ‘box from the new F-Type, uprated suspension and spring rates  that are 30 per cent stiffer than the XFR, tweaked Active Dynamics, new rear subframe, more ‘give’ in the traction control and the electronic diff has been reworked to the SFR-S can handle the extra power it gets.

The XFR-S also gets wider alloys (25mm wider at the front, 12.5mm at the back) with 265/35s at the front and 295/30s at the rear, bigger air intakes on the new front bumper, a diffuser and big spoiler at the back (you can opt for a smaller one) and plenty of carbon fibre bits. Inside, the XFR-S gets Jaguar’s carbon-effect leather with contrast stitching and piping, aluminium trim on the dash and R-S logos.

It looks like Jaguar want £80,000 for the XKR-S, which seems either a bargain or a shed load of money depending on your point of view. Compared to the XKR-S at £100k it seems cheap, but at £15k more than the regular XFR (and a chunk more than the BMW M5) the XKR-S isn’t exactly a bargain. But the Jaguar XFR-S does, hopefully, come with buckets of soul to add to it impressive performance.

The 2013 Jaguar XFR-S will arrive in the UK by summer 2013.
