Jaguar XKR-S - playing at Goodwood ahead of the FoS

It’s really quite hard to put the new Jaguar XKR-S in a pigeon hole.

You see, it’s not really an out and out supercar – and it doesn’t sport the price tag of one either – but it’s more than just a competent GT car; better than ‘just’ a continent-crusher.

In fact, as we’ve already noted, it seems to have the measure of the Aston Martin DBS – but at half the price. True, it’s not as beautiful as the DBS, and nor is its interior as beguiling. But it’s no dog’s dinner either.

In fact, in many ways, it’s a better bet than the Aston Martin. Because if you were sensible – and assuming you had deep enough pockets to buy a new DBS at a rather silly £180k + options – you could probably grab yourself an XKR-S for the days when blatting is a must, and a nice Range Rover 4.4 for the days when you had passengers – or the weather was rough.

But judge if the XKR-S has the appeal of the DBS in the video we’ve got of Jaguar’s new super XK playing at Goodwood, ahead of next week’s Festival of Speed.

It looks very, very good to us and – if the soundtrack was a little less intrusive – we know it would sound good too. It seems to go noticably better than the XKR (hopefully we’ll find out eventually) and although the DBS still has the edge in the looks department, the XKR-S and a RR for the same money as a DBS is more than a temptation.

It’s a no-brainer.
