Jaguar reveals the Cars & the Stars for the 2014 Mille Miglia

The real Mille Miglia ended in 1957 after a series of crashes saw it cancelled, but it returned in 1977 as the Mille Miglia Storica, a glorious event run over 1,000 miles of beautiful Italian roads featuring cars that ran in the original Mille Miglia. Jaguar has a big history with the Mille Miglia, and has taken to using the annual event to roll out stars to drive its cars for maximum coverage of Jaguar’s Heritage.

2014 is no different – although the number of entries is lower than in previous years – with ten classic Jaguars, including XKs, C-types and one D-type, taking to the Italian roads in May and piloted by a diverse range of star drivers.

Jay Leno is driving the ex-Sir James Scott-Douglas 1951 Jaguar XK 120 roadster with another 1951 XK 120 Roadster - the ex-Duncan Hamilton racer – having Mr and Mrs Example at the helm (that’s Elliot and Erin Gleave).

Scottish petrolhead and chanteuse, Amy Macdonald, gets behind the wheel of an XK 140 once owned by David Hobbs and Jeremy Irons gets his hands on the ex-Jim Swift XK 120 Roadster.

Jaguar’s own aren’t forgotten with chassis maestro Mike Cross getting the ex-Stirling Moss Monthlery XK120 Coupé to play with and Jodie Kidd will take turns with author David Blakeley at the helm of another XK 120.

Jaguar Heritage also has three cars in the Mille Miglia, with Belgian singer-songwriter Milow taking turns with JLR’s regional director for Europe, Bernard Kuhnt, and Brian Johnson (AC/DC man) with Andy Wallace taking the Jaguar C-type which won the 1952 Reims Grand Prix with Stirling Moss at the wheel.

Finally, there’s an ‘F1′ driver pairing with Martin Brundle and Bruno Senna taking the penultimate ‘Long Nose’ Jaguar D-type round Italy.

The 2014 Mille Miglia runs from 15-18 May and Jaguar, and its celebrity drivers, will be live tweeting through the event with the hashtag #JaguarMille if you want to keep up with events.
