Jaguar tops UK J. D. Power Survey 2012

Thu, 31 May 2012

Jaguar has ousted Lexus from the top of the J. D. Power tree in 2012 as top manufacturer. The Jaguar XF also took 2nd place in the car table.

Lexus has been a permanent fixture at the top of the J.D. Power Survey of car owners’ satisfaction for more than a decade – but no more.

In a clear sign that Jaguar is finally starting to get its message across that they are, once again, a desirable brand, they have topped the manufacturer list for satisfied owners in the 2012 J. D. Power results.

Not only has Jaguar come out as top car maker, they’ve also managed to grab second place in the top car list with the XF, a leap of fifteen place in a year. Interestingly, the Jaguar X-Type – which hasn’t been made for two years - also jumped fifteen places, to sixteenth on the list.

That the X-Type jumped as much as the current XF points to Jaguar improving not just the perception of its cars – little foibles and irritations are more likely to be overlooked if you think your car’s cool – but also its relationship with its owners.

Jaguar dealers have been a mixed lot with many offering a not exactly polished response to problems in the past. But that seems to be changing with Jaguar dealers upping their game with more enticing environments, helpful staff and streamlined service. So well done Jaguar dealers too, even if the downside has been a chunky hike in service costs.

Away from Jaguar, Lexus could only manage third place in the car section with the Kia Sportage grabbing top spot, and in the manufacturers list Lexus came second and Skoda third.

Interestingly, because Land Rover outsells Jaguar by a big margin, the SUV arm of Jaguar Land Rover managed only 12th place in the manufacturers table, and its top model was the Freelander in 42nd place.

Still, the cool dude Evoque will probably change all that next year, but the 2012 J. D. Power glory belongs to Jaguar.
