Jools Holland's old Jaguar E-Type up for grabs

A Jaguar E-Type, recently owned by classic car nut Jools Holland, is up for grabs at what seems like a low estimate of £35-45k.

Jools Holland may be best known for Later…, his annual Hootenanny, his exploits with Squeeze, his indiscretions on The Tube (with Paula Yates) and his incomparable skills on the piano.

But in the real world Jools has a beard, a pipe, leather elbow patches, a penchant for real ale and a passion for classic cars, one of which, a Jaguar E-Type S1 4.2 Lightweight Roadster, is about to go under the hammer at Brightwells.

Jools acquired this particular E-Type in 2006 after it had been rebuilt – at a cost of £60k – by Motorvation, which took an ex-Californian E-Type (rust-free), converted it to RHD and recreated it to look like a Briggs Cunningham lightweight racer.

The competition makeover included the usual race paraphernalia including uprated brakes, outside latch bonnet, lightweight panels, 30 gallon safety tank, safety harnesses and a rebuilt, lightened and balanced 4.2 litre lump driving the wheels through a 5-speed Supra ‘box.

Jools Holland bought the E-Type in 2006 after all the work had been done and spent another £13k having the E-Type sorted by Jaguar specialists CKL Developments so he could go historic racing.

Jools took his leave of the E-Type in 2009, after which it was converted for road use with a softer suspension and a more road-friendly state of tune and it is now about to go under the hammer at Brightwells in May for an estimated £35-45k.

This E-Type may be a bit of a mongrel but for anyone wanted some summer fun, and the chance to own a real motoring icon, it’s a bit of a no-brainer at the estimate.

The ex-Jools Holland Jaguar E-Type S1 4.2 Lightweight Roadster goes under the hammer on 16th May.
