Kia Rio

Fri, 11 Feb 2011

Another car set to be unveiled at Geneva is the Kia Rio. Debuting alongside the Picanto, the Rio's new look brings it inline with the rest of the Kia family.

The B segment car has grown in all directions and sports a longer wheelbase, whilst sitting around 15mm lower than the existing model. The revisions to the exterior see the Rio now boast a similar DRG to current Kia models, taking in the signature grille of the Korean brand. Flanking this are the large drawn back headlights that all sit atop the large faux air vents. In side profile the strong character lines, raked DLO and waistline give the car a nose down stance, suggestive of a sporting character. Whilst the double wheel arch treatment helps bolster the wheels against the somewhat heavy sides of the car — especially at the rear.

Around the rear, the car gains a Seat-esque hatch and large rear light arrangement. The Rio also features a smaller rear DLO and a two tone bumper, which add to the sporting intentions of the car. Kia has not announced a great deal about the cars interior. However, it can be presumed that it will be thoroughly revised in accordance with the exterior and outgoing models. Kia has mentioned that the Rio is to gain higher levels of trim and quality previously associated with larger models.

The Rio will also sport an extensive range of fuel-efficient and low-CO2 engines, from a 1.1-litre diesel unit to an all-new, high-performance 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine.
