Koenigsegg to celebrate 100th car with special model

Tue, 18 Sep 2012

Koenigsegg, Swedish makers of stunning supercars, are planning a very special model to celebrate their 100th car.

Christian Von Koenigsegg founded his eponymous supercar company back in 1994, but it took until 2002 for the first customer car to be delivered.

That first car was the Koenigsegg CC8 (a development of Christian’s original CC prototype) which featured bespoke everything – from chassis to suspension and brakes – but utilised a Ford 4.7 litre V8.

The CC8 spawned the CCR and in 2006 Koenigsegg launched the CCX which featured a new V8 engine from Koenigsegg with 795bhp and a 0-62mph of 3.2 seconds. The CCX in turn spawned the CCXR – a biofuel CCX that could run on  E85 and E100 ethanol as well as petrol – and both the CCX and CCXR led to ‘Edition models with even more power.

After a flirtation with the environmentally friendly Quant, Koenigseg produced the special edition Trevita (based on the CCXR) with Koenigsegg’s own diamond coloured carbon fibre, before launching the Agera in 2011.

The Koenigsegg Agera got a new 5.0 litre engine with 935bhp and over 800lb/ft of torque. It can get to 62mph in 3.0 seconds and hit a top speed of 248mph. The Agera then spawned the Agera R with 1100+bhp, with a 0-62mph of 2.9 seconds and a top speed said to be 260mph.

All this preamble – and Koenigsegg’s sack-full of world speed records – is just to illustrate what Koenigsegg has already achieved in 10 short years – probably far more than any other small builder of supercars. And now, Christian Von Koenigsegg is planning something very special to mark the 100th car.

Try as we may, can get no more from anyone about Koenigsegg’s 100th car, except that it is going to be very special. Will it be based on the Agera? Will it be a completely new car? Will it a ‘cosmetic’ job, or will it have even more power than the mighty Agera R?

If you know, do let us know. In the meantime we’ll keep digging for more information.
