Lamborghini LP700-4 - Name Confirmed (click for larger image)

This week – and today in particular – has been all about the Detroit Motor Show. But one absentee from Detroit is Lamborghini, which we guess lets them off their promise to bring a new car to every motor show. But despite not forking out for a stand or showing up with a new car, they have been forthcoming today with nmore detail on the replacement for the Murcielago.

But first, the image at the top. This is from an MMS sent to us by a contact, and it’s the colour chart for what we must now call the Lamborghini LP700-4. There is no mention of ‘Aventador’ on the chart so we’re assuming that LP700-4 is it. What you can see on the chart are a couple of new colours – Grigio Estoque and Arancio Argos – and we’re hoping for a better copy (and more information) soon.

Back to what Stephan Winkelmann said about the car he referred to as the ’834′ at Detroit. Stephan said that the Lp700-4 (for that is what we will now refer to it as) will be a proper Lamborghini with scissor doors, all-wheel drive and have military inspiration. In other words a touch of the Reventons, we assume.

The LP700-4 will be stiff and light and the 6.5 litre V12 will have 18% more power but 20% lower emissions than in the outgoing Murcialago – that’s 700bhp. It will have a Graziano seven speed, single clutch ‘box with five modes – Auto, Auto Strada,Strada, Sport and Corsa.

The suspension will be a pushrod suspension with horizontal dampers – a first for a road car – and the brakes will have 400mm discs up front and an electronic parking brake.

More when we get it, but we’re now certain that the new Lamborghini will be the LP700-4.
