Lamborghini going Green

Lamborghini has committed to reducing their CO2 footprint by 35% by 2015

We’ve seen luxury marques such as Bentley reveal bio-fuel cars, and Ferrari is working on a number of initiatives to reduce its emissions. And now its the turn of Lamborghini to let us know the direction they’re heading.

To be fair to Lamborghini, they are already heading down a lower emissions route. The recently launched Lamborghini LP560-4 manages to emit 18% less Co2 than the car on which it’s based – the Lamborghini Gallardo – thanks mainly to a direct injection system.

But Lamborghini are committing to a reduction of 35% in their Co2 footprint by 2015 – quite a tall order. They are kicking off at the plant by installing a raft of solar technology (being in Italy helps – don’t think it would work as well in the UK) over the next few years at a cost of €35 million which will cut Co2 from production by 30%. They are also working on weight reductions for their cars, more efficient engines, Stop-Start, Bio-fuel and even hybrid engines.

Give it a few years and we’ll be having to produce Co2 to keep plants thriving, if car makers carry on at this rate!
