Lamborghini turns Black Cab for a day

Thu, 24 Apr 2014

HAVE YOU ever seen a Lamborghini taxi? Probably not, but for one day only the brains behind the new Pure Rally initiative turned a Gallardo supercar into a London Black Cab.

Londoners and tourists alike were able to hail the 201mph 'Lambo Cab' on Wednesday April 23, as part of a publicity drive to promote a new, more affordable kind of pan-European car rally adventure.

With the 0-60mph sprint knocked on the head in a few blistering seconds, the Lambo Cab was definitely the fastest way for passengers to get between London's endless traffic lights.

The only catches were that the two-seat Gallardo could only carry one passenger at a time... and there wasn't exactly room for a suitcase.

The Black Cab makeover consisted of a roof-top taxi light, taxi signage, an internal meter and, of course, a beaded seat cover.

Its first passenger of the day was glamour model, beauty queen and television personality Imogen Thomas who was picked up from The Mayfair Hotel in central London. Afterwards, the Lambo Cab continued cruising central London's streets and joining cab ranks on its hunt for lucky passengers.

Mel Oliver, founder of Pure Rally, explained the story. “Most people never get a chance to take a ride in a supercar. So we thought that if we converted a Lamborghini into a taxi for a day then this would give a whole bunch of people an opportunity to hail it and then experience its awesome acceleration and top posing value – it is a very beautiful machine.

“We believe that the glamour of supercars and fun of car rallies should be opened up to a much wider audience. This is why our rallies around Europe cost a fraction of our elitist rivals – so you don’t have to be super-rich to be involved.”
