The toy versions of the Land Rover Discovery Sport revealed

Land Rover have been busy teasing the new Land Rover Discovery Sport – the replacement for the Freelander – ahead of its debut on 3rd September. We’ve already had the new Discovery Sport out testing, a good look at the Sport’s interior and, of course, the initial review of the Discovery Vision Concept that previewed the new Disco Sport.

But now, ahead of a debut in a week or two, we get the Discovery Sport revealed early thanks to a photo of a couple of die cast models of the new Disco.

What we see is pretty much what we expected; there’s the new Land Rover/Range Rover front end with LED running lights, ‘DISCOVERY’ lettering on the bonnet, a full length panoramic roof, a spoiler at the top of the tailgate and alloys that look just the same as the Disco Sport prototypes we’ve seen.

What the toy Discos don’t reveal is what’s under the bonnet, but that will be a revised version of the platform underpinning the Evoque (itself a variation on the Ford platform underpinning the current Freelander) and engines that will end up being from JLR’s new Ingenium range (but will probably have the current 2.2 diesel at launch).

The new Discovery Sport looks set to carve itself a niche as the default choice in the segment, and with prices expected to start at under £30k – but a chunk more if you want the toys and the best spec – it could add significantly to Land Rover’s sales.

All will be revealed on 3rd September 2014.
